Only to a small extent, LLCoolpass. You are essentially talking about trimming and there are many more factors than that as I'm sure you know. Engine weight, engine material, exhaust system design, connecting rod length to bore ratio, piston dwell, cooling system design etc. etc. but the rule does not change. If you measure average mpg of six 300hp 4 litre engines of varying quality and compare the result with six 2.8 litre 300hp engines the rule will be proven. It IS simple physics.

Yes, grogadile - European & Asian rules that make tax & registration concessions for lower capacity engines are brainless. In Europe since the sixties ( still current I guess ? ) I's much cheaper to run & register a car with max 2.8 litre capacity. Mercedes and BMW and the like ( & more common makers ) then make a 2.8 litre engine which has the same or more power than the average 4 litre but this rule applies here too and the cars then use just as much fuel. Typical Dumbass governments.

all V8s sound amazing (or should i say they sound the same) 8 cylinders is 8 cylinders, no matter who makes it, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, ahem Lexus...just a rant on the vid description
