BackGuido's step-by-step method to learn a soft back breakfall - useful from a harsh and fast irimi-nage or if you don't have the surface for slide ukemi.

You were at a Tissier seminar? I trained at one in Brasil - he was awesome, I was so impressed. Gab

I have not had the honor of training under tissier sensei yet. I have not really seen this ukemi in our organization, granted I have only been training for about 3 years. I am supremely challenged by this ukemi as well as falling breakfall irimi nage. Very tuff. How long did it take you to get this down comfortably?

I am not actually the one DOING the ukemi in the videos - that's Guido of Aikido Harmonia dojo where we were living and training in Brasil for 5 months. I also find the ukemi very challenging as my style doesn't do anything like that. Guido started training when he was young, and developed these techniques with another student in their spare time I think. I'll see if I can get him to respond to your question.
Cheers,
Gabrielle

Hi djresonance!
I wont lie about it and say that was either easy or fast to learn it, took me several months and i did it the hard way - i saw many people doing and i (along with a great friend of mine) tried to do it. We got hurt some times and unless u have some1 that knows how to fall and it's a responsible sensei to teach u, i would advise you to don't speed up your fall training based on my video.
take care!

Hi Gab
Peter from Tassie here. Hope all is well. I have been working on this stuff for about a year now....I have a question for you. How will you return to the old Dojo after experiencing some of the best teachers in the world. Am very jealous you went to Tissier seminar, he is one of my favourites, be well, hi to the other half.

Hey Pete,
I need more sessions with you, because I didn't really get the hang of it all - atleast I have a process now though.
I'm really looking forward to getting back to Griffith actually - steady base, although I would still like to experiment with training - enjoyed aikikai. Would be a dream to go to France and train with Tissier again though (he was amazing), although I hardly remember much of it now. Does he ever come to Australia?
