1) The Eagle has never seen combat against a worthy opponent like the Su-27, the US pilots actually fear an engagement against Flankers, this is said by pilots themselves.

2) Stealth is today's big step but USA is relying far too much on it, maybe a new type of radar will appear or a new fighter.

3) USA is (again) doing the same mistake they did back in Vietnam, understimating the opponent, and they are doing that by thinking no country will come up with a successful countermeasure.

The US military knows there will be a day that the F-22 and F-35's stealth capabilities will be neutralized. It is predicted that a new type of SAM will make F-22s and their kin light up the radar scope. Because of this, the Air Force and the rest of the military is continuing research and development on projects other than stealth. For example, a new HUD is being developed where a pilot can simply move his head towards a target and lock on. You can lock on a target behind you.

Even if the enemy is underneath your plane, you will still see his targeting blip if you look down; then you lock and kill them. That is but one technology being developed. Don't even get me started on airborne lasers. We know other countries will develop and become powerful adversaries in the air and on the ground and sea. We are prepared to take them on, but we'd prefer to have them as allies!

And I don't doubt that, actually I admire the USAF, but I think the russians are understimated...no fighter should be crowned "the best fighter in service" if it hasn't seen action yet against equal fighters (eg. F-15 vs Su-27 or F-22 vs Su-35/47)...what I hate the most is that people like EVHLP63 makes comments with no actual arguments or very poor arguments about something they think they know about.

Besides, we are talking about pure theory, and in war, theory = bullshit...
Charlz135 (July 14, 2008 at 2:58 am)
I wouldn't rely too much on stealth if I were you, it works in theory but maybe in practise it may betray you..

Wait you said Indian right?that means they were using F-15 A's. Americans use F-15 E's.And not to mention, nothing against the Indians, but American pilots are trained better than the indians.Alot also has to do with the pilots too.
Charlz135 (July 12, 2008 at 9:30 pm)
Yeah but that exercise was recent...besides there are NO F-15As in service, maybe a few with the NASA and they are for experiments...the USAF actually used F-15Cs with their latest modernization (at the time) and the F-15Es are specialized in A2G tasks and has secondary A2A capability just in case they are intercepted or something, the F-15Cs actually do the job of establishing air superiority.

The pilot skills have a lot to do yeah but so does the fighter...
EVHLP63 (July 14, 2008 at 2:38 am)
Well both are almost equally matched,so it all comes down to the pilot.
Charlz135 (July 14, 2008 at 2:57 am)
You got half right there, except that the F-15C is a 3rd gen fighter and the Su-30 is a 4.5th gen fighter and is also the world's best dogfighter since it has superb maneuverability (one of the many aspects it's known for) and the Su-27B (the first version in service) is almost equal to the F-15C, almost because if not superior in an aspect it's equal to the Eagle...the F-15C is considered the best just because of the curriculum it has, the Flanker has not seen true action like the F-15 has.
