Wings - B-52 Stratofortress - Part 2
BackRemember the documentary series called Wings that the Discovery Channel used to air over a decade ago? It also translated into series named Wings Over the Gulf, Wings of the Red Star, Wings Over the Pacific, and even spawned a weekday edition at 6 pm called Weekday Wings. Remember the Wings Marathon on New Year's Day? Here is a little bit of nostalgia from those days. My best friend's uncle taped all of the episodes from one or two marathons and he (the best friend) gave them to me literally days before he went off to basic training. I didn't edit out most of the commercials you see since, well, they do show their age.
Here is part 2 of 2 of the B-52 Stratofortress.

at about 3:00 when the bomb is being dropped, what are those small tongues of fire, explosive charges?

Just lighting glare. Only the external stores on the B-52 used impulse cartridges (small "explosive" device) to jettison them.

This was made in what the early 90's? nearing its end HA! If nearing means 50 years away from it (when this was made).

There is an estimate that the BUFF will be in service until 2045!! Making it something like 90 years of service. It wouldn't surprise me at all if it does serve that long. Best aircraft ever built.

being military they have to yield to no emissions controls and they have limitless supplies of fuel to burn away

The smokey takeoff is the result of water being injected into the exhaust to give a temporary boost in thrust to the P/W J-57 turbojets.

I may be wrong, but water being injected into the exhaust would only reduce the temperature of the exhaust. It wouldn't provide a boost in thrust.
