the officer getting sued for injury is why. Let him shoot himself. He's just going to end up in prison otherwise, where God knows what people will do to him if he doesn't kill himself first.

what does it matter ? yeah its a bad idea but that guy shooting himself or an officer is a ever worse idea.

Trying to shoot a gun out of the hand of anything, or anybody is a bad idea. He could have hit the bullet, and it could have exploded. The revolver's fragments could have exploded in any direction. The shards could have hurt him, or anyone else. Dangerous tactic, even though it did work out.
