contrary to turboeattore comment the sr was not useless. yes it was expensive to fly. i had the distinct pleasure of watching my father fly the sr, including a hsla pass over populated yuba city, ca at midnight a very long time ago. if anyone has unanswered questions ill be glad to run them by my father and see wht he can divulge. mag. lionel p. boudreaux (stormy)

rmanaseri..Your father Maj.(Stormy)Boudreaux checked out in the SR-71 in the early 80's..you should be very proud to have a Habu in the family...Best of luck to the Maj. glad he got away with that pass over Yuba City....

what's this bird built for?

recognition, this was the most useless plane ever built by usa.Very expensive, very unsafe. After less then 10 years and 3 or 4 accidents and very few mission, someone with brain took the decision to end this useless program

turboeattore..I could'nt disagree more with your statements ..the Sr-71 flew 3,552+ operational sorties (most still classified) & total of 17,300+ sorties= totaltime@Mach#3 11,700+hrs and one of the safest records of A/C in the U.S.A.F. inventory..what other A/C spent so much time at high Mach#3+ that went from 1972 to 1989 without one mishap??no other A.F.A/C equaled this accompaniment...your posting information is badly flawed.....

This plane is wonderful and has great speed, but was useless and expensive. Usa from mid 70's took their spy information thanks to their satellite.

HAHAHAHAHHA dude you know how many countries have tried to shoot this thing down? IT OUTRAN THE MISSLES think about it no flares, no nothing just pure speed CATCH YA LATER AA

poonjoo..the speed was an important part, but the aircraft's R.A.M. coating ..the altitude the A/C flew at..plus the R.S.O. and his E.M.C.system, all worked in unison to keep the SR-71 safe.......Don't forget the man in the back...Thanks

Beautiful.... but the Brits have restored a vulcan to flying condition using private money, so come on America, make the world a better place, put a blackbird back in the air.
