"Exploring a Russian Submarine"
BackIt was another warm, sunny summer's . . . err. . WINTER'S day yesterday here in San Diego (it's always hard to remember it's winter with this great weather we almost always have here LOL), so I went over to the Maritime Museum of San Diego, and wandered around inside the 300 foot long "B-39", which is a Russian, Soviet era "Foxtrot" class (its NATO designation) or "Project 641" (Soviet Navy designation) diesel-electric powered attack submarine. She was constructed at the Sudomekh shipyards near Leningrad and commissioned in 1974. The irony is that the B-39 almost certainly spent part of her career stalking many of the of the U.S. Navy ships that are now her neighbors on San Diego Bay! (the above info is taken from the Maritime Museum brochure).
The two songs for this video are "Yellow Submarine" by The Beatles, and, AND, since I have a REALLY droll, dry, warped sense of humor, I also used a bizarre song (more of a "surreal, story telling narrative") called "The Submarine", by 2NU, which is a group out of Seattle, Washington. The eeriness of the song seems to go really well with the eerie, solitary journey thru' the pipe and wiring filled "intestines", within the confines of the belly of the sub. (I'm over 6 feet tall, so it was quite a stunt to continue filming while squeezin' thru' the small openings inside the sub!! . . . luckily I do a lot of Yoga, so I'm USED to bendin' into the shape of a PRETZEL!! LOL)

I thoroughly enjoyed that, thanx. You did a great job keeping the camera steady while navigating those tight spaces. I explored an Oberon Class sub moored at the Maritime Museum in Sydney Harbour and before venturing into its bowls, I thought yeah no problem, I can do this, but the minute I was below, an uneasiness took hold of me that I had no control over. I marvel at the men who served on U-boats and allied subs during WWII. How on earth did they handle those conditions without going mad?!

Thanks for commenting MagneticTheory! Just yesterday I was back at this sub talkin' to somebody about how confined the spaces are inside a sub like that. I need to see the SUN every day! :)

Another great video. This makes me ashamed that I never took the time to make my own videos and I work there! I love this sub, & trying to find burned out lightbulbs is like an Easter Egg hunt in there! Glad you are sharing this. We will most likely lose this sub this year to make room for a different sub and some kind of barge. I'll be sorry to see it go. I loved the journey and the music made me laugh!

Hi Darla! Glad you enjoyed the music choices! LOL That WOULD be difficult to find burned out light bulbs in there!!! That's a bummer that the museum might lose this sub next year!
