For one, Burroughs and the Beats were before Bob Dylan. He admired them. For two, it's called melody... anyone can wail away on an electric guitar screaming into a mic. It takes immeasurable talent to produce an acoustical riff such as that that accompanies the even more brilliantly written and sung lyrics

Watchmen isn't fast paced, it's deep, really deep. Desolation Row (The original) suits it perfectly, the quote "Now at midnight all the agents and the superman crew come out and round up everyone that knows more than they do" is used in the book. MCR's punked up version takes away the certain element of romance with the desolate that I love so much about that song

Dylan captures the mad world in which we live and links the madness from past to present from art to religion to fantasy to everyday reality - quite stunning really.

honestly this is an amazing song. hopefully they put it in Watchmen next year, too.
