the video is about a man on top of a skyscraper who is the last man on earth because the earth has drowned he swims to his old home underwater and lets go of the O2 tank. views up to the surface to see lights in the sky. the video is inspired by one of thoms dreams and a painting that thom saw. The song reperesents what was on the painting and what it felt like when thom saw it i think.

I suppose the underwater home could represent an number of things, a comfort(?)zone, the past, or maybe it's the subconscious that we dive into when we indulge in self-examination. Either way, the point I take from it is that it's not wise to get too comfortable down there even when the here&now seems to offer nothing, as amazing lifechanging occurrences can appear from nowhere, that you'd otherwise miss. Either that or it's a cautionary tale about leaving the bath running.

yeah. on the surface it seems very spiritual (and was influenced by Thom's reading of Siddhartha) but what this flooded world makes me feel on a deeper level is that when we all dive into our own self-discovery, our own hermetic faith we forget the world around and there's no reality left for us to live in. of all Thom's songs this is one of the more "prophetic" ones- look what has happened with how many people let their faith divide and blind them to our common humanity since 2001.
