Have a look at any band, boy, mixed or girl group, and you will always have one or two that always sing lead.

In S Club7 it was Jo who normally sang lead, Rachel sometimes, even Hannah sang lead in Dance, Dance, Dance

Another example is Westlife, the two that always sing lead are Mark and Shane.

They don't chose whether they are going to sing lead, they are told, depending on whose vocals range is the best for the song
