Lockheed SR71 Blackbird Cap1
BackThe Lockheed SR-71, unofficially known as the Blackbird and by its crews as the Habu or the sled, was an advanced, long-range, Mach 3 strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed from the Lockheed YF-12A and A-12 aircraft by the Lockheed Skunk Works. The SR-71 line was in service from 1964 to 1998. Clarence "Kelly" Johnson was the man behind many of the design's advanced concepts. The SR-71 was one of the first aircraft to be shaped to reduce radar cross section. However, the aircraft was not stealthy and still had a fairly large radar cross-section. The aircraft flew so fast and so high that if the pilot detected a surface-to-air missile launch, the standard evasive action was simply to accelerate. Thirteen aircraft are known to have been lost, all through non-combat causes.

Why the fcuk is this in French? Is it too much asked to indicate it in the title so I don't have to listen to an incomprehensible language?

I agree with DjGambit1. Fuck the MIG-25!

Mig-25 better? Not according to Victor Belenko, the Mig 25 pilot who defected to Japan in 1972. He said the Sr-71 moved with relative impunity over Soviet airspace and, when approached by the Mig-25, simply "walked away from it". The Mig-25 was a primitive machine propelled by two massive cruise missile engines designed to be used only once. The Mig was an act of desperation.
Read "Mig Pilot" by Belenko for more.

I do not understand this hype about the aircraft that was not capable of performing it's oroginal objective and had to be converted to a recconaisance aircraft.
Also, the cost was huge.

the original objective was recconaisance...which it did great....
they had a version converted to a fighter, but THAT one didnt work so good, becuase the internal weapons bay doors would jam at super high speed..
and there was no need for a mach3 fighter, since the soviets didnt have a mach3 bomber...not even a mach2 bomber...
