I was aware that some cultures do that, as they value plumpness as a virtue in women. However, America manages to be the fattest country by a LONGSHOT even when the culture values thinness. weird isn't it?

Excellent point. However, I think its all boils down to people wanting the things they don't have. Many of the countries who value being fat often contain many poor, hungry people, with only the rich able to buy fattier foods.
