Islam & America: Through the Eyes of Imran Khan - Pakistan
BackNov 2001
Why do so many Muslims hate the United States? What has America done to alienate so many people in the Muslim world? These are the questions that former Pakistani cricketer turned politician, Imran Khan, tries to answer in this latest offering of the Unreported World series.
At Islamabad's Women's College, a concert for peace is taking Place. The students are mainly from privileged, middle-class backgrounds. If you were looking for Muslims that sympathised with the West, this would be the first Place you would go. But even here, amongst the more liberal, "Westernised" Pakistanis, anti-American feeling is riding high.
"It's as if one white life was far more important than thousands of black or brown lives," comments one young, educated, middle-class woman. "They feel they can basically come in, use as they please, and then, when they want, they can just walk across the border, go somewhere else, and do exactly as they please there," complains another.
The underlying feeling here is clearly that the US only cares or acts when its own people are at risk. If these liberal, cosmopolitan women feel this way about America, how must those who do not benefit from the Western way of life feel?

Women are given equal rights in Islam. Let's see what Hindus say about women. mmmm let me see. "SUTTI" have u ever heard this word? hindus used to burn women when their husbands were dead and this was stopped by a Muslim emperor.

We had our ugly children (Inquisition , Nazism and Communzm) So if you believe that fanatism is distorting and damaging your Islam ,dont tell me that - it is your responsibility ,to deal with it in your Mosques , press and schools . In the meantime if some ideology will undermine our societies, by the way the societies which allow anybody to strive and live as they wish (including millions of Muslims ) - it will be eventually dealt with.

The second point is,that you are blaming USA for the growth and spread of Wahabism. I am not defending here policies of USA , but you are displaying a typical today's Muslims approach in finding solutions : somebody did it to us and that somebody is responsible, not us. It is your reliigion , and Wahabism is yours and USA is not responsible for whatever direction your Islam takes .

Or a person like me will just see the realities on the ground - fanatism, undermining of Democracies, spreading a vile hate against Non-Muslims, a horible inequlity towards women , gays and other examples ?
I dont see how it is up to Non-Muslims to put Wahabism in its place and let, so called, true Islam (if it even exist) to fluorish instead of it?

You are saying that there is Wahabism, stating that it is a cult and I imagine by that you are saying that it is not the true Islam . Let say I agree . But Sir, do you expect me to be an Islamic scholar to know the difference ? Is it my obligation and responsibility as a Non-Muslim , who minds his private affairs private and not against any people to spend time studying Quran and go through intricasies of your Faith?
Kbrt111 (September 5, 2008 at 6:58 pm)
One of the values of any normal democracy is an absolute freedom of Faith or lack of it. If you are a Muslim who believes in God and is concerned ONLY as a believer with your purity in His eyes and are keeping your Faith as a private affair in your heart as it should be (since others have a full right not to share your believes and be free of your Faith in their lives ) how can I be against that if I am truly a follower of Democratic Values?

thanks for a meaningful posting 2311971, I will state as straight as I can - I have no issue with you being a Muslim , how can I?
