As the Scotish Anthem says Those days are past now,
And in the past
they must remain,
But we can still rise now,
And be the nation again, and this is what that song is saying we must learn from the past not live in it and sadly todays superpowers have not

Spot on Kizza thats excatly what the song is trying to show and we found the meaning of it in Ireland in the North. Thats the what should be associated with this song. Irish have suffered so much through out her History only in2006 was Peace brought to my Land in nearly over 800+ years of foregin rule

This song brought back memories of me mom telling me of my great uncle that died in WWI "The War To End All Wars". There's something about this song that moves me in a way no other song does and maybe that was the emotion Eric Bogle was hoping for when he wrote it. It's sad really that in all these years we've learned nothing and still can't get along. I still hold out hope for a peaceful world, but that hope seems to be getting fainter with each passing day.

If Germany wonthe war, then the Germans would have conquered france. Then Italy would have fallen. England would have been bled dry of thier youngest and best. Eastern Europe and the Balkans wouldn't have been able to mount a successful defense. All that remained to be swallowed by the German War Machine is Russia. The last thing my great-grandfather wanted was Germans walking around in Moscow. So, you arragant american fool, think before you go shootin' off your mouth.
