General Dynamics F-111 Belly landing
BackBelly landing Great control. The General Dynamics F-111 is a medium-range strategic bomber, reconnaissance, and tactical strike aircraft designed in the 1960s. The United States Air Force (USAF) variants were officially named "Aardvark", their longtime nickname, at their ceremony of retirement from service in 1996. The only remaining operator of the F-111 is the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), and in Australian service the F-111 is known as the "Pig."
The F-111 pioneered several technologies for military aircraft, including variable-geometry wings, afterburning turbofan engines, and terrain following radar for low-level, high-speed flight. Its design was highly influential, particularly for Soviet engineers, and some of its advanced features have since become commonplace. In its inception, however, the F-111 suffered a variety of development problems, and several of its intended roles, such as naval interception, failed to materialize.
In USAF service the F-111 has been effectively replaced by the F-15E Strike Eagle for medium-range precision strike missions, while the supersonic bomber role has been assumed by the B-1B Lancer. The Royal Australian Air Force is currently intending to replace its F-111 aircraft with the F-35 Lightning II.

Never seen a belly landing that has ended badly. All credit to the pilots, but really they know what to do and these things are not as dangerous as most people think.
Case in point - I have never seen a belly landing with anyone with as much as a scratch.
Most pilots will tell you these landings are pretty routine.

His mates might have run in the sim but there is a standard operating procedure for every (fingers crossed) emergency and for a gear up landing golden rule is be as light as possible, eg burn or dump fuel if the aircraft has that capability. I really doubt they would have to run in the sim to figure that out. Hope he didn't need a new flight suit by the end of it though!

well thats what happened they wanted to make sure it would work the way they had planned because these incidents are rare they had guys in the sim a plane flew up to check the damage on his main gear out and the ATC had him circling to burn fuel, I spoke to a friend of one of the controllers who was there who is also a controller in the RAAF and he was there at the time

Wow, one pilot jumpped out and ran for his life; while leaving his copilot still strapped to his ejection set. Not the pilots/navigators greatest monent.... Bet he is flying cargo planes out of bumbfuck Egypt now... That would piss me off as a commander, but who knows, maybe its part of the traning to not stay and help your buddy. One of my favorite movies is flight of the Intruder, wher pilots stay a die for their buddy.. maybe just hollywood BS?????

And Australia did have a carrier at one point.HMAS Melbourne. Then was about to purchase HMS Invincible in 1982,but the brits retained Invincible after the Falklands. Not sure if they were ever going to be used on it,but New Zealand did buy ( now mothballed ) A$ skyhawks from the Aussies. But any landing you can walk away from....
