F-117 Nighthawk

The Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk, nicknamed "The Black Jet", is the world's first operational aircraft completely designed around stealth technology. Flown only by the United States Air Force, it is a direct descendant of the Have Blue stealth prototype program.

The F-117A was widely publicized during the Gulf War. Retirement looms on the horizon, with dates being discussed ranging from 2008 to 2018.

They USED to be good.. modern air defense weapons can EASILY take out the 117 now because its top speed is only around 600 miles per hour which is extremelly slow. You can shoot them down with unguided AAA weapons if they come in low in daylight.

Those of you who are criticizing this plane for its combat loss should read up on the circumstances. First,several squadrons of F-117s had passed through Serbian airspace prior to the attack, and the Serbians had OVERLOADED their equipment to spot a SINGLE F-117. God knows how many passed through undetected. That's one down in over 20 years of combat operation. About the speed, the plane's role is a ground attack aircraft, not a fighter (despite its designation).
