JSF (Joint Strike Fighter) EOTS
BackThe Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) is an affordable, high-performance, lightweight, multi-functional system for precision air-to-air and air-to-surface targeting. The low-drag, stealthy EOTS is integrated into the Joint Strike Fighter's fuselage with a durable sapphire window and is linked to the aircraft's integrated central computer through a high-speed fiber-optic interface.
The EOTS uses a staring midwave 3rd generation FLIR that provides superior target detection and identification at greatly increased standoff ranges. EOTS also provides high-resolution imagery, automatic tracking, infrared-search-and-track, laser designation and rangefinding, and laser spot tracking. Sharing a Sniper legacy, it provides high reliability and efficient two-level maintenance.
Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control is teamed with Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems to produce the JSF Electro-Optical Sensor System (EOSS). The EOSS consists of the EOTS, led by Lockheed Martin with BAE SYSTEMS, and the Distributed Aperture System, which provides 360-degree situational awareness, led by Northrop Grumman. A cornerstone of future defense capability for the U.S. and its allies, the EOSS supports situational awareness, target recognition, and precision weapon delivery.

F22 is not fighter jet, fighter jet can not be so expensive, it is mostly technology demonstrator, F-35 is really badass plane cheap and leathel. Good job usa. (I''m russian jets fan, but f35 really kick ass) If russian pak fa will be more expensive than f35, the f35 will be the best plane. ithin it is the best plane now.

wait wait wait...since when is the F-22 not a fighter jet just because it's so expensive? the B2 costs about 2 billion each, but that doesn't make it into a tech demonstrator. (i'm also a big russian fighter fan...i love sukhois) but, i like american planes just as much.

robinhagy (May 28, 2008 at 4:43 pm)

Sentenashi (June 3, 2008 at 11:12 pm)
And use vertical take off.
madbob73 (July 4, 2008 at 2:58 pm)
Both are meant for different roles - jsf F35 is multirole for use on carriers.

No it does not.

the harrier does not melt runways..if it did it wouldnt be used on carriers.
yes and all 3 versions melt the runways
yes and all 3 versions melt the runways

The front nozzles of the Harrier don't, but the rear do melt concrete(front is the fan bypass air, rear is coming from the combustion chamber). Same for the JSF, front fan, rear hot engine exhaust.
Aircraft carriers have metal decks, not concrete (which actually "spall" technicall).
Harriers have zero internal space, so why is some internal space worse than that?
Also the rumor is that there is a larger F-23 being used instead of F-117 (which are all retired now).
