As people have said before, it doesn't matter who comes first, hell dinosaurs could of roared their version of death metal for all we know.

Imo it's just who makes a real impact, whether they're out in 80, or 90, or 95, whenever, if they make a big enough impact, they're the example set, Possessed just didn't do it for me.

Yeah it was Mantas around that period, but imo Death was deffo the start of death metal for me, some have their own views, still Death made great timeless music.

what about possessed..they both came out in 83..well death was mantas i think at teh time..
and as chuck said..we dont want to be any type of metal..were just..metal..but possessed called themselves godfathers of deathmetal..ha..idk
