Could the C17 ever be converted into a gunship, like the way the USAF has made the AC-130 Spectre gunship..?? It could accomodate more Howitzer and a larger Thunderbolt II's 30mm GAU-8/A Gatling gun maybe ???

Yes it could, but it isnt feasable. Too expensive, and the C-130 does to job fine.

my dad works for boeing in the c17 plant in long beach, ca. very large airplane; looks like a turtle kind of. sometimes i go to those ceremonies where they "release them from the nest". very cool when the military comes to pick up their order. my mom also builds international military radars and it also is cool to see them come, but c17 is better.

I can remember going to NJ for some airshows as a kid back in the early eighties, and seeing C-5's & C-141's and old KC-135's. but this C-17 takes the cake with it's short take offs and landings, and of course the REVERSE is a nice touch.
