Sir Arthur C Clarke: 90th Birthday Reflections

The world's best known writer of science fiction, Sir Arthur C Clarke was the first to propose satellite communications in 1945. One of his short stories inspired the World Wide Web, while another was later expanded to make the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, which he co-wrote with director Stanley Kubrick. He has lived in Sri Lanka since 1956.

Clarke was a complete atheist/materialist with no religious or superstitious beliefs.

You must have finished your report before he died, because he died in March. It's too bad - but he lived a long life and was an extraordinarily prolific author.

I really got the chills when he bid farevell at the end. Like a beautiful old and tired tide of geniosity and intelligence gently washing on a beautiful peaceful beach. You took us on the edge of imagination. All we can is to heartwarmingly thank you. You won't be forgotten - rest in peace.
