OMG!..This is SO cool!! I had forgotten the name of this track and haven't heard it for LOTS of years! AHHH!! The slide guitar and good ole Echoplex .. then into a bit of Bolero! God I loved this song back then and it had popped in to my mind numerous times over the years but couldn't recall the name! My middle school rock band in the 70's covered this song as part of our set list. Also did Midnight Man [less the chic vocals.] Thanks for posting !

Killer tune!!Its funny I was just listening to a southern hard rock band called Dixie Witch and this is the last song on their first album and I thought I recognized it!It had been so long since I heard it I had to make sure it was the same tune!Dixie Witch does an excellent cover by the way!!

Come to think of it--the guitar you're hearing JUST MIGHT BE THE EXACT SAME Gibson Les Paul guitar that Walsh later gave to Jimmy Page that he used to record "Led Zeppelin 4" and "Houses of the Holy". You notice the "twang" on the power chords are identical, and I doubt seriously that Page did much more modification to it after he recieved this precious gift. Many a classic rock song were probably played on it!

The twang comes from the Celestion speakers mostly. Pre-rola's I imagine. Some of that sound has to do with the old Marshall head he is using, but not that much specifically speaking as far as tube amplifiers go. Les Paul's don't twang. They sustain. Telecasters twang. :) ON a side note, this sort of twang bite crunch tone is what made rock happen in many ways and it all has to do with the old Celestions. They can not be duplicated. That sound is gone forever. It is a shame. :)

That wasn't my point, but thanks anyway for the info about the speakers. I didn't necessarily mean "twang", either, I should have said "tone", that's what I really meant.
Anyway, my main point was that--this was one "lucky" guitar. Just the thought that the exact same guitar used on this song might have been used on "The Ocean" by Led Zeppelin a couple of years later.
It takes a trained ear to notice these things like you and I. Some people can't tell the sound of a Gibson from a Fender!

betty. Yep. It's all about tone. An adverage guitar player with great tone is way better than the very best guitar player with bad tone. I am glad you got a good ear, that makes two of us at least. :) Its sad for kids though. These days with Disney promoting faces and image over substance of music, kids grow up musically stupid now a days. I am glad you got that ear for sound, it's a wonderful thing.
