British forces claim that the city of Basra in southern Iraq, is one of the 'success stories' of the country.

However, there has been a rise in violence against women.

Al Jazeera's Rosie Garthwaite reports.

All past civilizations were in fact matriarchy, now sexist historians, have erased most of womens actual history, or have just not pointed out many of the wonderful contributions women have given to society. It's a myth that women lack, in science,math, engineering, if you want real history you will find it, women have been involved with science etc, for over 4000 years, prob more. It's not natural for men to rule. The truth is when, more men rule, society goes to shit. Women are better leaders

Women you have the ultimate power "Giving life, you could take it away easily" How you can gain power world wide. First off, stop caring what men think. Secondly learn basic self defense, thirdly grow large sister hoods again, fourthly, refuse to have male babies, tell men you will not have sex with them, or tell men you will kill your selfs, if you don't get the power you deserve. Not all men are idiots, but some are, and they fall for their weakness "Violence" Women you don't want to oppress anyone, along with some males, you must all unite to lock up this idiot male, and also bring back our natural order "Matriarchy" The sooner men admit that a decent chuck of their gender, has problems the better. When matriarchy returns, peace returns duh!

why don't mulsims stop blaming west and really look at what's going onin their own homes with their daughters (whom you sell to marry at an early age), wives (whom you beat unlawfully), unhappy sisters (burning themselves to escape terrible life next to muslim men). wake up!

It is difficult to believe that you are not aware of prostitution and child abuses in the west. I am from the west and I know what goes on and you are deaf dumb and blind if you if you don't. Poverty is usually the culprit in all parts of the world for such travesties of decency.That said who is bombing who for money and oil or financially enslaving people for those lovely diamonds? Recent actions of the USA and their human rights abuses have called into question any Christian moral high ground.

This is a human rights problem. It is happening because of all of these forces, there is no one place to place blame. The issue at hand is women's rights not America, the UK, Islam or Iraq. These things are happening to women and it represents a disregard for life in general, especially the lives of women.
