floyd with syd and floyd without syd are 2 different bands and should not be compared. enough syd or gilmour. imagine the depth they would have had if they stayed a 5 piece!!! this song is so frigin powerful when you crank it up loud. "WOULDN'T YOU MISS ME AT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL"???

Of course, he is the best, his "dark beat" is very expressive. He had a lot of talent.

Totally agree Dackycat. Its even evident in David Gilmours guitar playing. Syd was Floyd,and i have to credit them for not forgetting that.

Very true, especially considering when Gilmour joined Floyd, he was asked to sound as much like Syd as possible to cover for him. To Dave's great credit, he did a lot of things to help Syd after he left Floyd, like helping him record his solo albums and putting several Syd songs on later Floyd Greatest Hits collections, so Syd could get some royalty money. Syd was Floyd until he left the band...after that Floyd became a totally different animal (pun intended!)

I totally agree! Syd's singing style sounds EXACTLY like the style Roger Waters started using on the later albums (Animals, Wall, Final Cut.) I would say, considering just how much money he made mining the subject of Syds mental breakdown (much of Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, and the Wall), and the aping of his singing style, Waters owes a HUGE debt to Mr. Barrett. What fragile beauty Syd had in his music!
