Wings - B-52 Stratofortress - Part 1
BackRemember the documentary series called Wings that the Discovery Channel used to air over a decade ago? It also translated into series named Wings Over the Gulf, Wings of the Red Star, Wings Over the Pacific, and even spawned a weekday edition at 6 pm called Weekday Wings. Remember the Wings Marathon on New Year's Day? Here is a little bit of nostalgia from those days. My best friend's uncle taped all of the episodes from one or two marathons and he (the best friend) gave them to me literally days before he went off to basic training. I didn't edit out most of the commercials you see since, well, they do show their age.
Here is part 1 of 2 of the B-52 Stratofortress.

Which is bigger (In both payload, tonnes and legenth) This, The Tu-95 or the Tu-160. If none of theese hold the top spot tell me whicho bomber does.

The Tu-160 is bigger in all respects. It carries about 25% more ordnance and is both heavier, longer, and wider (with wings fully spread).
The Tu-95 is really a more comparable aircraft to the B-52.

Tu-95 is close to B-52 in terms of range and speed but lacks it's payload.
Of course, Tu-160 is in a higher league, but it is at least 10 times more expensive to build/maintain.

Really? Thats just fucked up.

I doubt it is possible to use it in it's main role - as nuclear bomber against russia. One of every six participating b-52s were shot down during Linebacker II operation in Nam which is far from being such defended as russia is.

Difference is in the mission profiles, the Vietnam raids involved traveling through Vietnamese airspace over the target area and then back out again, giving considerable opportunity for air defenses to intercept. The mission profile for a strike on Russia utilized the B52 as a stand off weapon, essentially as a first stage for the 20 or so cruise missiles it carried, these would be launched closer enough to hit there targets, but far enough away from Russian air defenses to avoid being hit.

I remember something I read about the engineers who re-designed the B52 in just one night of hard work before expiring the time for the bidding for the new plane.
Someone has better information about this story?

Absolutely no way you can redesign an aircraft in a single night. Pieces of it maybe, but even then.
