The standby just allows your amplifier to utilize partial power (standby) to warm up the filament in your tubes so you don't wear them out as quickly; turn it on when they're somewhat warm (after about a minute).

I think Line 6 is the worst choice when buying an amp. They make it sound cool by telling you it's a 'modeling-amp', and 'It's sounds like every great amp all in one!' Not true, they don't.
Line6 fans: don't hate me for saying this. It's just my opinion based on experience.

I play my Ibanez RG prestige trough an all-tube ENGL souvereign amp. I also play a Gibson ES135 trough a Roland JC90.
The ENGL is great for high gain stuff, but it also has a great clean channel. With my 808tubescreamer and the clean channel the RG sounds superb!
ENGL = very versatile!

I must say it's an expensive hobby:-)
Better get a good evening job then! ;-)
It's worth every euro though. There's nothing more frustrating than playing with a crappy sound, while you know it....

rofl. a evening job, im a 16 year ole lazy ass

haah ya its expensive but also rewarding :)

What's even more rewarding than making music is making music and earn money with it:-) And then spend that money on guitar gear...
