this very effectively convinces me that North Americans in the '50s did have spunky jingles playing continuously in their heads. This probably lasted until about the mid early to mid '60s. any suggestion on mental soundtracks of that later time?

That raises an interesting question...what DID people in the 50's do when a dog started humping the leg of a guest? Laugh it off? Beat it senseless? Move, out of the shame?
