i really want to play this mission, but the stage before; the one that u have to infiltrate a lab and set up some explosives in about 40mins is nearly impossible to beat ='(

I find that extremely doubtful, since Stalin is around. I think it's set in the 1930s-40s, after all the USSR was very expansionist and aggressive at the time, only impeded by Germany. I think they just screwed up in this scene with the modern rifles, or maybe for some reason small arms tehnology was also way ahead of its time in Red Alert.

I think Red Alert is meant to be around 1954 and Red Alert 2 is in the 1970's. I might be wrong but I think thats when its supposed to be set:)

Actually, the Allies' victory is the canonical ending, because GDI would not have been formed without the G8 nations. Also, Red Alert 2 have nothing to do with the Tiberium universe, it is a spin-off of the Red Alert, and thus is a different universe. Think about the beginning of the Soviet campaigns in both games: in RA1 they are coldly disgussing about the rate of the mass executions and RA2 shows Romanov poking at his pet turtle. Quite a difference in the mood of the plot.
