This plane was developed in the UK and improved later by Macdonald Douglas US & BAe UK for the USMC, RAF, RN. The engine is a Rolls Royce Pegasus.
The F35 Lightning will replace them all, but the Harriers will prob get passed on to another country.

The engine sounds of those Harrier jump jets (engine power up/power down, engine throttle up, idle)would be perfect for the shuttlecrafts in the Star Wars Expanded Universe.
