Lori Piestewa... Hero.

Jessica does not accept the hero status. She has said several times that the true hero is Lori. They followed orders 'til the bitter end. Jessica has had 20 painful operations and will carry the pain for the rest of her life. Lori, Jessica, and all other soldiers that have been killed, injured or risked (or will risk their lives are truly heroes. We appreciate you all.

Yeah, but you can also say that she saved Jessica's life just until she'd lost her own life in the Iraq War.

You are absolutely right. Lori had a deferment (an injured shoulder) yet went in because of Jessica, saved her when her truck broke down, later drove to the rear to make sure others got through, leading ultimately to her death. At the memorials Jessica has said that Lori's bravery, strength and friendship enabled her to survive her many painful operations...

I'm not Indian, but am from Arizona and obviously heard a lot about this incident. I am incredibly saddened that she passed, but even more aggravated about the way she did. If her company hadn't made that wrong turn this never would have happened. I hate to say it, but as a soldier currently serving and getting ready to go to Iraq if I made a mistake like this and lived I would be court martialed - not honored as a hero like Jessica Lynch.
R.I.P. Lori - Its a shame you had to go this way.

As a war veteran and Cherokee warrior I honor Lori. I will not forget this hero and fellow warrior.

As a former army soldier and a desert storm vet who is one quarter Comanche, this woman stands for us all, all nations, all tribes who have never been treated well. Her children should be proud even if their mother is not physically with them. Ahiii...the call of the warrior fills us all. Mother Earth's peace to a hopi woman warrior.

This is a very fitting tribute. We in the UK are also feeling losses. Our thanks goes out to all the young men and women of both our nations who stand together guarding on our wall that we may walk the streets of our own lands and else where in peace and safety. I feel some sadness when I see the news reports of our young men on fire and injured and worse often the very people they are trying to help seem to hate them and us.Bilko UK
